Getting Started

I do not dream of being an "Extreme Couponer" like those of on TLC. First I do not have the time or energy to do that. I am just an average person looking to save some money. The truth about the show is that are really saving a lot of money, however they are spending money to get those coupons. When they order 1000 boxes of cereal, they need 1000 coupons. They use coupon clipping services to buy those coupons paying any where from a nickel to a dollar depending on the amount saved on the coupon. This site is not going to focus on doing extreme purchases, but rather smaller purchases and a normal size stock pile.

I do not carry around a large binder, but rather a small coupon holder that I bought at the Dollar Store. The binder is a great idea if you have a lot of coupons and want to do large trips and focus a lot of time on couponing. I find the small holder to suit my needs just fine. I like to have all my coupons with me when I go shopping, just in case something is on clearance and I have a coupon for it.

When it comes to buying Sunday papers I like the Kansas City Star. However you have to be careful, because it does not always carry all/or any coupons. Sometimes just the Capital Journal will have coupons or vice verses. Each week I will let you know which paper has the best coupons and if there is a difference in each, where you would need to buy each one. I'll also list how many papers I am buying that week based on the coupons inside. I'm not a fan of buying 10 papers, because once again my aim is not to have a giant stock pile. I would suggest buying at least 2 papers a week, so that you have 2 of each coupon. This is because ofter stores will offer a Buy One Get One Free, in those cases, you can use one coupon on the one you are buying and one coupon on the one that is free. Doubling the discount on the one you are paying for.
